Life at The Castle Pre-School Whitstable. A safe and nurturing environment is the foundation for children to explore, learn and develop. Our dedicated staff foster a love of learning through play, and we use our wonderful surroundings in the grounds of Whitstable Castle to build children’s independence and confidence.

A child-focused approach to childcare in Whitstable

We know our children well and tailor their pre-school experience to each child’s needs. We celebrate each child’s individuality and aim to promote confidence and independence. Our role-play areas let children engage in imaginative play, helping them develop thinking and problem-solving skills.

Our curriculum

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, so our practice meets the required standards while staying enjoyable for the children. Each day includes music and movement, storytelling, art and craft, and physical play, which build fine motor skills, language and social skills. We introduce early literacy and numeracy through songs, games and hands-on activities.

Our outdoor spaces give children a unique chance to connect with nature. Through gardening, nature walks and outdoor play, they learn about the environment and develop an appreciation for the world around them.

Working with families

We place great emphasis on communication with parents. Regular updates keep families informed about their child’s progress and activities.

The Mud Kitchen

A haven of exploration and activity, whatever the weather. Pots and pans bang, and magical recipes of mud, leaves and twigs are mixed every day. The imagination children bring to the mud kitchen never ceases to amaze us.

The Kingdom of Curiosity

Our real-world exploration zone. In the construction area children learn about the world around them and try out tools and materials they may already have seen in real life.

The Discovery Zone

Before our children graduate from The Castle and move on to school, they explore what “big school” will be like. Uniforms from their chosen schools let them practise dressing up and try activities they’re curious about, building school readiness in a setting they already know and trust.

Under the Sea sensory area

Our children have the castle grounds on their doorstep and the beach a short walk away. Sea and beach life are part of growing up in Whitstable, and our sea sensory area lets children explore it at their own pace.

The Board of Possibilities

We encourage creative independence, and there’s no better place for it than our Board of (endless) Possibilities. Will they draw, build with magnetic tiles, write letters or make shapes? What matters most is that they express themselves and feel confident being creative.

The World Outside

Outdoor learning happens every day for our children (and our staff!). With the freedom to explore safely, children build independence and learn about the world outside.

The Castle Cottage

No pre-school is complete without a home corner. Whether they’re cooking dinner or throwing a birthday party, you’ll find children playing in the Castle Cottage every day.

Come and see how your child can thrive in our supportive and stimulating environment. We’re open all year round, Monday to Friday, 8.15am to 6pm.
